A land of shattered dreams, where there's no moon
Where the stars have lost their beauty
Yet the land is filled with girls so pretty.
I'm living in a lost world where my fellow brothers have lost humanity
And divorced their characters from sanity;
Living in a world of shattered dreams
Where hatred and xenophobia flows like rivers and eternal streams.
This is the land of shattered dreams - land of my birth
The land of South Africa, the belly of the Earth,
Where heroes are born and great men of Art emerge;
Submerge deeper into history and its the cradle of mankind.
But now I see this mighty land with a completely different state of mind
I see faces new and faces old
I see those who are ever sweet and those that are forever cold
I see the positive change, which changes if you look into it at a closer range
I look and I see a democratic government
But I look deeper and see that they're corrupt and living above the legal covenant
The year was 1994, where we were sure
That the years ahead would be much better than before.
Indeed they were.
But it took a decade for thorns to grow in our garden of roses
And we stopped having presidents like the great leader Moses.
Yes! our land is developing, but we're losing the essence of mankind
Ubuntu...
We've lost our humanity and sensitivity towards our neighbours who are at war
Other countries who've helped us in our struggles before
We chase them away as if they're parasites from our land
And yet expect God to continue blessing our soil and sand
This is the land of shattered dreams
Where ignorance reveals to be bliss
And our land continues to cage itself from the continent out of its own selfishness,
We suffer in our own bitterness and our epidemic of crime
And those who could change the world sit in refuge writing poetry and rhymes
And the Bible quotes, 'these are the last days and the end of times'
So something needs to be done
To make living in Africa as a whole fun
Let's revive the spirit of humanity, 'Vhuthu'
And make South Africa the land of growing dreams!
